Stargazer Legal Information

Privacy Policy

Stargazer is committed to providing you a highly interactive personalized experience. We are also strongly committed to respecting and protecting your privacy and to maintaining your trust. This policy statement explains our information gathering and usage practices and applies to all information that we collect from you while you interact with the Stargazer site.
We respect the privacy rights of all users who access our site and our services or who are members of our discussion groups or communities. Subject to the limitations stated in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service, we will not release any personally identifiable information to third parties without first obtaining your permission.

HOW STARGAZER GATHERS INFORMATION ABOUT USERS

We collect information about you in a number of ways. We request some personal information when you register. During Registration, we may ask for information such as your e-mail address, state, and country, areas of professional or personal interest, and other information. Some items of information may be optional rather than required. We do not collect your name, which means that we do not collect individually identifiable information. However, because we collect your email address, it may be possible to correlate information that you provide to a particular email address.
The more information you volunteer, the better we are able to customize your Stargazer experience. We may also ask for additional information at other times when you use some of our other services, such as our communications and collaboration services, or other services that we may make available to you in the future. Whenever we collect information about you, we will make an effort to provide a link to our Privacy Policy and, if appropriate, to our Terms of Service.
In addition, we may gather information identified with you (i.e., personally identifiable information) as part of your use of Stargazer. In some cases, this will be information that you provide on a voluntary basis in connection with Stargazer activities not related to the Login process. For example, information may be stored in as transcripts from your communications and collaborations, content published by you, or other services that we may offer to you in the future.

CHANGING INFORMATION

At any time, you may edit or update your registration with us by Editing Your Profile.

SECURITY

We take significant precautions to protect your information both online and off-line from unauthorized access. In addition, when you register as a user, you will select a user name (called a Screen Name) and a password. To ensure your personal information remains private, we recommend that you do not share your password with others. We also recommend that you fully exit from our site at the end of each session so that no one may gain unauthorized access in your absence.
You may change your password at any time, and you should always do so if you suspect the unauthorized use of your account or access to your password. You may change your password by going to the "My Profile" page. You agree to contact and inform Stargazer immediately of any breach of security of your password and account. To contact Stargazer, contact 911@Stargazer.org.

COOKIE FILES

We use "cookies" to improve your navigation through the site and to allow customization of the site according to your individual preferences. A "cookie" is a small string of text stored on your computer's hard drive that contains information about you and your use of our site.
When you register with us, a cookie is sent to your Web browser and stored on your computer. This cookie identifies you as a unique, registered user and holds your preferences as you have identified them during Login and Registration. If you select "remember my password,"the cookie stores your Screen Name and password, allowing you to enter the Stargazer site from the same computer without having to re-enter that information each time you visit.
We also use cookies to collect information "anonymously." An anonymous cookie contains a unique identification number that is stored on your computer so that we may track your activities on the site. This unique number identifies your browser, but not you. An anonymous cookie will not give us any personally identifiable information about you, such as your real name and address. We do not collect personally identifiable information about any one person using anonymous cookies. Instead, we use aggregated information to determine how our site is used, what areas are accessed most often, what pages are most popular, and how long users view the content. An anonymous cookie only lets us know that you are using a particular computer. Since cookies are only text files, they cannot run on your computer, search your computer for other information, or transmit information to anyone.

OTHER WAYS COOKIES ENABLE US TO SERVE YOU BETTER INCLUDE:

Helping us remember who you are through your browser so that we can provide personalized services.
Measure traffic patterns. Cookies indicate which services are most popular and therefore help us better understand when new services should be introduced.
You can set your browser not to accept cookies, but if you do we will not be able to customize the site's features according to your preferences, and you will often be asked to re-enter your Screen Name and password as you move through our different services.

LOGGED FILES

Like most sites, we use Internet Protocol (IP) logs to analyze who is visiting our site. These IP logs provide us with the IP address, or electronic location, of your computer on the Internet. An IP address is a string of numbers separated by periods (e.g., 123.456.78.9). We may use the IP logs to analyze which browser types and Internet Service Providers people are using, as well as their countries of origin.

WHAT WE DO WITH THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

The information you share with us may be used in several ways. Typically, during your visit to our site, we will use your registration and demographic information to deliver content or services that we think might be of interest to you. We may also combine information about you, your computer, and your usage patterns with similar information obtained from other users to create profiles of our users as a whole and to identify overall preferences in content and services.
We will use your e-mail information to communicate with you about your registration and customization preferences, our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, other services and products offered by us, and other important information about our services. We may also communicate with you about changes and improvements to Stargazer. From time to time, we may call your attention to unique content and services that we believe you might find interesting. If you would prefer that we not use your registration information to allow you to receive such information, you may decline during the registration process or at a later time by going to editing your profile. If you so decline, you will not receive communications from us.

Notwithstanding this policy, we reserve the right to disclose any information that, in our sole discretion, is reasonably necessary to protect Stargazer or our business, including but not limited to complying with a court order or an appropriate order from an appropriate administrative body or law enforcement agency. In addition, if we become aware of anyone using our service in ways that we may believe to be illegal, we reserve the right to report any such activities to law enforcement agencies and to cooperate with those agencies.

Such activities are beyond our control.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Third parties provide some of the services that we offer. In such cases, we will do our best to inform you about or direct you to the third-party provider's privacy policy and terms of service. With respect to your use of those services, you will be bound by the third-party's privacy policy and terms of service rather than by ours.

AFFILIATED AND LINKED SITES
